Match Report: Berekum Chelsea 2-1 WAFA - Leaders suffer setback in title race

League leaders WAFA suffered a setback in the Ghana Premier League title race as they were defeated by Berekum Chelsea 2-1 on match day 23 at the Golden City Park on Sunday.

The WAFA youngsters were prevented from dominating the encounter because of the bumpy nature of the Berekum Golden City Park playing surface.

Chelsea nearly got the opener in the early stages but for Razak Abalora’s excellent goalkeeping which kept the score line at 0-0.

However, WAFA appeared on course for victory when in the 4th minute when a defensive blunder by the hosts gave young attacker Richard Danso the chance to tap in the ball from close distance.

Chelsea responded quickly after WAFA failed to clear their lines properly as deadly poacher Stephen Sarfo capitalised to power home the leveller in the 28th minute.

The Blues came back from recess looking charged as they piled pressure on the visitors but wasted the chances that came their way, with the culprit being striker Alfred Okai Quaye.

But the Blues got the winner with just 10 minutes to end proceedings after referee Adjoku awarded them a penalty, which was duly dispatched by Stephen Sarfo.

WAFA's maintain their top spot with 43 points but with a game in hand ahead of second placed side Aduana Stars after match day 23.
