New Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Michael Abu insists he is ready to fight for a position at the club and is not "afraid of competition" for a place in the team.
The former Ebusua Dwarfs goalkeeper joined Kotoko at the start of the season but has found stiff competition in Felix Annan, who has been the best goalkeeper in the Ghana Premier League this season.
Former Black Starlets goalkeeper Dan Lad Ibrahim and Osei Kwame who joined from Inter Allies are the other players he faces competition from.
"I am not afraid of competition", he told the club's website. "I knew I was walking into a bigger challenge when I opted to join Kotoko. Felix , Danlad and Osei Kwame are all top goalkeepers, but I was bought here because the handlers know that I also have qualities to win the slot."
Michael Abu was the safest pair of hands for Ebusua Dwarfs last season, played 22 times and helped the Crabs to a fourth place finish.
He recalls how he had to work hard to be picked ahead of veteran goalkeeper George Owu as first choice shot-stopper at Dwarfs.
"At Ebusua Dwarfs, I kept the post a lot of times ahead of George Owu. Getting the nod ahead of him didn't come easy. Competing for places in itself isn't new to me though I admit that this one is a bit difficult. It's a long season and every goalkeeper would have his time. I have to make myself ready at all times so that I can show my worth when my time comes."
