Former Chelsea Premier League star, Michael Essien has emerged a shock target for ambitious League of Ireland First Division side, Limerick FC.
Limerick officials approached Essien after he watched them beat Shelbourne 2-0 on Friday in their march to the Airtricity League First Division title in the Markets Field.
The Ghanaian was among the attendance of 1272 as goals from Shane Duggan and Chris Mulhall made it 18 wins from 19 starts for Martin Russell’s Limerick FC.
Limerick's famous guest also presented Shane Duggan with the man of the match award.
Essien is on the hunt for a new club after he was released by greek side Panathinaikos at the end of the season.
He is said to favour a move back to the English Premier League although he is yet to receive any concrete offers.
