Middlesbrough boss Agnew: Downing in good place now

Published on: 21 April 2017

Middlesbrough boss Steve Agnew feels veteran Stewart Downing is rediscovering his best form.

The former England international was out in the cold during Aitor Karanka's final days at the Riverside.

But the 32-year-old is back in the fold under caretaker boss Agnew, who believes a fired-up Downing provides Boro's best hope for survival as they gear up for tomorrow's must win clash with Bournemouth.

“Stewie looks as if he is in a good place right now," said Agnew. “He's a Boro boy and it means so much to him, he's been working so hard and contributing magnificently to the team.

“The younger players look up to him not just due to the way he is performing but because of the kind of person he is."
