Hull City are closing in on the signing of Ryan Mason after reaching an agreement over a fee with his club Tottenham, according to Sky Sports.

The newly promoted Premier League club are in dire need of new additions, while Mason has found himself out of favour at Spurs with Eric Dier, Moussa Dembele and new signing Victor Wanyama all ahead of him in the pecking order for the midfield positions.

Ahead of their clash against Manchester United on Saturday, Hull interim manager Mike Phelan spoke of the club's need to sign at least six players before the transfer deadline on Wednesday, although he did not mention Mason's name despite admitting fees had already been agreed for some new summer arrivals.

Phelan said:"We are in talks with two or three new players, we are pursuing those but at the moment nothing has been delivered.

"We've agreed a few fees, but we haven't got into discussions yet as to what else it's going to cost us one top of that.

"Without naming names, we have agreed fees with players, clubs and agents and we just have to see between now and Wednesday whether we can get those done.We need as many as we can get. We talked about six, it may be more, it may be less, we'll have to see."

As for outgoings, both Abel Hernandez and Harry Maguire have been linked with a move away from the KCOM Stadium, but Phelan is desperate to keep hold of the forward and defender.

"As it stands nothing has happened in those areas and I expect nothing to happen in those areas," Phelan said.

"We've got quality football players we need to keep at this club and I hope these players will still be here after Wednesday."
