A former national football star, Mohammed Ahmed Polo, has challenged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to go for sponsorship packages that will not only transform the Ghana Premier League into a formidable one, but would also make the top four teams over $525,000.00 richer.

According to Polo, sponsorship packages that would make the winner of the GPL $200,000.00 richer with the second-placed team gaining a prize money of $150,000.00, while the third and fourth-placed teams receive $100,000.00 and $75,000,000.00 respectively will be competitive and attractive as to generate keen interest among the corporate world and sports fans in and around Ghana.

Polo, a former kingpin of Accra Hearts of Oak and the Black Stars, told Graphic Sports in an interview that with the right approach, the GFA could hook a sponsor who would be so much in love with the GPL that he would be prepared to invest and transform it into one of the most formidable and attractive leagues in Africa.

“ If we want the league to be very competitive from start to finish, then the GFA needs to go in for a sponsor who will be ready to offer high prize money for the top four clubs, while all the participating clubs receive substantial amount of money to keep them afloat”, the dribbling magician noted.

He said a handsome prize money for participating clubs would also eliminate the perception that some teams play matches of convenience at certain stages of the league.
