Monchengladbach swoop for Plea

Published on: 13 July 2018

Borussia Monchengladbach have beaten off competition for a number of clubs to sign Nice striker Alassane Plea on a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old is the third major departure from Nice in the last couple of days, with former team-mates Jean-Michael Seri and defender Maxime le Marchand having moved to England to join Fulham.

He's a versatile, quick and clever forward who has put his talent on full display in Ligue 1 and the Europa League.

Plea had spent four seasons with Les Aiglons, scoring 36 goals in 111 Ligue 1 appearances, helping the club to finish third in the French top-flight two seasons ago.

Now he heads off for the new challenge in the German Bundesliga, with Monchengladbach looking to improve on a ninth-place finish last term.

Foals sporting director Max Eberl told the club's official website: "We're extremely glad that this transfer has gone through and we were able to sign Alassane despite a lot of competition from various other well-known clubs.

"Thankfully for us, he wanted to come to Borussia at all costs. He's a versatile, quick and clever forward who has put his talent on full display in Ligue 1 and the Europa League."

While Plea heads to Borussia-Park, Danish defender Jannik Vestergaard moves out, having agreed a four-year contract with English club Southampton.

And the 25-year-old centre-back leaves with the best wishes of the Foals hierarchy, with Eberl adding: "Jannik more than met expectations during his two years here after joining from Werder Bremen. We now wish him every success in the Premier League."

Monchengladbach are 200/1 to win the Bundesliga next season, with Borussia Dortmund priced at 7/1 and Bayern Munich 1/7.
