Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye has stabbed Black Stars players describing them as ‘indiscipline’ compared to other athletes in the country.

The member of Parliament for the people of Odododiodio constituency twisted the knife further into the senior national team players when he praised Ghana’s Olympic team in Rio for comporting themselves even when their per diems remained unpaid.

Speaking to Accra based Joy FM in an interview, Mr. Vanderpuye said, “If it were the Black Stars, we all know what could have happened.

“I thank God that we have a much disciplined crop of sportsmen. If it were the footballers, you all know what could have happened.

“Yes we had problems but they (athletes) have been disciplined and quiet all this while." He added.

The Black Stars were eliminated from the 2014 FIFA world group stages due to unpaid per diems. The Government of Ghana had to fly US$ 3m in a chartered flight to pay the players before they rescinded their decision to play their final Group match against Portugal losing by 2:1.

It has been described as Ghana’s worse world cup participation.
