Paulinho returns to China

Published on: 09 July 2018

Barcelona have allowed their Brazilian midfielder Paulinho to re-join Guangzhou Evergrande on a one-year loan.

The former Tottenham star, who only moved to the Nou Camp from the Chinese side last summer for £36million, becomes the third departure from last season's La Liga champions this summer following the sales of Andres Iniesta and Gerard Deulofeu.

Guangzhou have the option to buy Paulinho on a permanent basis next summer.

"The level of the Super League has improved year by year and the development prospects are very good,”" Paulinho told Guangzhou's official website.

"After training in Evergrande and Barcelona and following the Brazilian national team in the World Cup, I got a good experience. I chose to return to the Super League this time, hoping to bring more championships to Guangzhou and Guangzhou fans. I also hope to give the Super League more excitement!"

Paulinho moved to Guangzhou from Tottenham three years ago for £10million and played 84 games during his initial spell with the club, scoring 22 goals.

The 29-year-old made 49 appearances for Barcelona last season, finding the net nine times, and played in all five of Brazil's matches at World Cup 2018.

Guangzhou are 4/1 to win their eighth consecutive China Super League title while Barcelona can be backed at 4/5 to clinch the La Liga title in 2018/19 and at 5/1 to triumph in the Champions League.
