Pochettino: Spurs were better than Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is confident his side deserved their 2-1 win over Southampton on Sunday.

First-half goals from Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli gave Spurs a two-goal lead at half-time at White Hart Lane before James Ward-Prowse pulled one back for the Saints in the second half.

"Southampton are a very good team with very good players and yes it was difficult, but in the end I think we were better and deserved the victory," the former Southampton boss told Sky Sports.

"The first half we played very well. We were much better. The second half was, on the contrary. We conceded a goal because of our mistake, not clearing the ball in the box.

"They proceeded to score but I think we were better."

The result sees Tottenham stay in second place, 10 points behind champions-elect Chelsea, while Claude Puel's Saints remained 10th after their 12th defeat of the league campaign.
