The coach of the senior national female team, Yussif Basigi, is confident that his side will qualify from their group despite being paired with defending Champions Nigeria, Mali and Kenya in Group B for the 2016 AFCON.

The tourney is scheduled to start on November 19 in Cameroon with the Queens of Ghana attempting to claim the trophy for the first time since its inception in 1991.

Coach Basigi in an interview explained the difficulties which came with being paired with eight-time winner Nigeria, and Mali, who are an emerging force in women football across the continent.

“There is no doubt as to how difficult the group is, but I’m hopeful we will sail through from the group phase into the knock-out stages.

“Playing against newcomers, Kenya, will be one of the toughest matches but I have belief in my team, and I’m ready for the championship.”

The Queens have made 11 appearances at the championship and, have lost three finals to Nigeria in 1998, 2002 and 2006 finals.
