Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila could be joining English side Newcastle United should everything go through in January.

According to reports in the UK, Newcastle are keen on bringing in the hard tackling defender.

Sumaila, 24, has been Al Qadsia's best performer in the ongoing Kuwaiti VIVA League, having won three man of the match accolades, the same number of appearances made in the league team of the week.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender has been linked with several top clubs following his impressive start to the campaign.

And reports from UK indicate that, the hard-tackling guardsman is being monitored by English Premier League returnees Newcastle United ahead of the impending January transfer window.

The defender was close to joining Scottish giants Rangers FC in the summer transfer window but the move hit a snag at the last embers.
