Real Madrid following Mariano Diaz progress at Lyon - insider

Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on the progress of Mariano Diaz at Olympique Lyon.

Lyon have declared there is no buy-back option in Mariano's deal amid claims Real want to re-sign the striker after a superb start to the season.

Quatro pundit David De las Heras told Foot Mercato: "Real Madrid follows what Mariano does. For the moment, they have not planned to make him come back because I think that Real Madrid will recruit a more confirmed forward than Mariano.

"I think Mariano needed a team like Lyon, where he would have playing time and where he would feel important. During his last season at Real Madrid, he did not have many opportunities (5 goals in 14 games).

"He is a player with a great level and who with continuity can show an important performance, as we see now. I think that Mariano has progressed since his arrival in France. Every game, I see him more and more comfortable in the team. He plays at a better level.

"By getting the minutes, he will improve match after match."
