Real Madrid defender Marcelo is in 'no doubt' that his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the World, according toGoal.com.

The Brazilian full-back has responded to a previous comment from ex-Barcelona midfielder Xavi, who claimed that his former teammate Lionel Messi is still the World's greatest footballer, however, the 31-year-old believes that football's best talent plays for Los Blancos.

Speaking ahead of Madrid's opening Champions League group game as thereigning champions faceRonaldo's former club Sporting CP, Marcelo said: "Everyone wants to talk about Ronaldo. He is number one in the world, there is no doubt.

"I see him work every day and I think he's the best, but it isn't just what I think. I think it's what many people believe. He's won three Ballons d'Or and he works really hard for the team.

"There is plenty more to come from Ronaldo. He's is still young and he's a great team-mate."

Real Madrid could become the first side in modern football to regain the Champions League should they lift the trophy once more in May, however Marcelo has admitted that it won't be an easy task: "We've got to try and build on last season.

"It will be a tough season, just like last season. It is not easy to win the Champions League but we are on the right path.

"No team has won successive Champions League titles but our job is to try and win the Champions League."
