REVEALED: Real Madrid Ace Sergio Ramos Can Only Wear Black Boots Due to Nike Contract Fallout

Published on: 12 September 2016

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos can only train and play in black boots until February following the termination of his sponsorship with Nike.

The Spanishinternational had been with the American company for a decade and his deal was due to come to an end early next year, but he has decided to end it earlier than planned.

However, the terms of the contract prohibit him from wearing boots of any of their competitors, meaning the centre-half is resigned to wearing retro black boots until he is able to sign with another brand.

He had initiallyreverted to painting his Nike boots black before wearing footwear of that colour.

According toMarca, although Ramos has a reputation as one of the game's leading defenders, he is struggling to attract a new brand because of his high wage demands.

Ramos had spoken to global brands Adidas, Puma, Joma, New Balance and Under Armour regarding new sponsorship deals, but is yet to sign anything.

In the meantime he will bring back images of the old days when footballers only wore black boots. Nowadays the impetus is on creating the brightest most outgoing designs possible as footballer's look to raise their profile in any way possible.

Andrea Pirlo, who currently plays in New York, recently got a custom pair of boots made in a special wine colour to perhaps create some of the most diverse boots we've ever seen.

Nicklas Bendtner famously wore pink Nike boots in a Champions League match, which has since seen the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo become just as famous for what he wears on his feet as he does for his actions on the pitch.
