Former Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini believes that the Nerazzurri could have been a title challengerif he was still managing the club, according to reports fromSky Sport Italia.

Mancini has told Sky Sport Italia reporters that Internazionale would have been a competitive threat to current Serie A leaders Juventus. He believes his former Italian side had the squad to challengeand go all the way to capture the famous Scudetto title.

"We were right up there last season, leading the way after 20 games, but then we oscillated between first, second, third, and fourth," the former Manchester City manager told Sky Sport Italia.

"We needed to continue down that road. This year, we could have been challenging Juve for the title - it could have been a really big year."

The 52-year-old Italian has been in charge at Inter on two separateoccasions, the first time from 2004-2008 and 2014 when he left by mutual agreement.

"It didn't end in a bad way," the Italian stated.

"We reached an agreement on a mutual severance because there were no longer the conditions for us to work serenely together. When you have a club takeover going on, there's always chaos."

Mancini is a well-respected manager in Italy and abroad. He won three Serie A Scudetto's with Inter in his first time in charge and managed to claim an emphatic English Premier League title with Manchester City in 2012.

The unemployed manager has recently been tipped to be the next potential Leicester City manager after Claudio Ranieri was surprisingly sacked from the Foxes last week.

Inter Milan are so far having a rollercoaster season in Italy's top flight as they got off to one of the worst possible starts.
