Rooney: Man Utd will help Ibrahimovic, Rojo come back stronger

Wayne Rooney says Manchester United will stick together to help two of their star players back from injury.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo damaged knee ligaments in Thursday night's Europa League win over Anderlecht and are expected to undergo surgery this week.

On Sunday, Rooney was back in the starting line-up and scored as Jose Mourinho's side beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor.

"Marcos and Zlatan are great lads," Rooney said.

"We're all gutted and disappointed for them because they're going to have tough times in the next few months but they have the support of all the players.

"We'll try and help them come back stronger."

Rooney is also thrilled with the depth of the United squad who banded together to see off the Clarets after losing Ibrahimovic and Rojo.

"We know we've got a good squad and we'll need that squad for the run-in," he added.

"We've got eleven games left if we get to the final [of the Europa League] and we've got to stick together and try to help each other succeed.

"It shows the strength of the squad when the manager's calling on players who don't let him down."
