Scout: Bayern Munich REJECTED Ibrahimovic - it was right decision!

Published on: 26 April 2017

Bayern Munich came close to signing Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the past, it has been revealed.

Björn Andersson, a long time scout with Bayern, recalled to Fotbollskanalen how Ibrahimovic came close to signing for the German giants in 2001.

"We had contact with Hassenborg (former sports director of Malmö FF)," he said. "But Bayern said no as it was too much money for a youth player.

"It was the right decision. Bayern have won more titles than Ajax and Juventus. That counts in the end. They did not do anything wrong. Also for Zlatan the change to the Netherlands was correct. Who knows whether the German mentality would have suited him at all."

At the time, Ibrahimovic signed for Ajax for €8 million.
