Southampton boss Pellegrino delighted with victory over Sevilla

Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino was pleased with their 2-0 win over Sevilla.

Goals from Jack Stephens and Manolo Gabbiadini either side of the interval were enough to win the game.

And as Pellegrino continues to implement his ideas, the Saints boss felt the signs of improvement were evident against quality opposition.

“It was a tough game with tempo. We played against a Champions League team with quality and we were in trouble because we were running behind the ball a lot," Pellegrino reflected.

“The good news for us is the spirit that we had in the game. Little by little we got better and got confidence from the goal.

“We have to keep going and to keep improving. We need time and games so that they know the new ideas and have the best connection between them but I am happy because my players were giving everything,

“Today we saw on the pitch some moments where we played well, we were strong and we protected the corridor in the middle of the pitch."
