Deputy Sports Minister Pius Enam Hadzide says his outfit will review the cash reward scheme for the junior national teams.
Each player of the Ghana U17 team that finished in the quarter finals of the FIFA U17 World Cup in India received $4000 each as a reward.
“Personally, I think there’s a lot of sense in the proposal to find creative ways to reward those ‘minors’ rather than cash," he told Citi FM
“Motivation should not only be material. You should be intrinsically motivated to compete for Ghana. It should be a privilege to don the national colors at that age.
However Deputy Sports Minister did state that the ministry were found in a tight corner but his outfit will review the reward scheme for U-17 players going forward.
“But we met a situation and the attitude was not to rock the boat at the time. But going forward, we all need to discuss these matters and come to a conclusion on what the way forward should be.”
