Mauricio Pochettino has kindly reminded Eric Dier of what Tottenham Hotspur has done for him.
The versatile England international has emerged as a £40million target for Manchester United who see him as a long-term replacement for veteran midfielder Michael Carrick.
But Pochettino took the opportunity on Thursday to remind the 23-year-old remind where he came from and who got him to where he is today.
"It's important to analyse Eric from where he came because I think people are a bit confused sometimes," said Pochettino.
"When we signed him he was a player with potential.
"We've provided all the tools for him to be a Premier League player."
It is understood that Jose Mourinho is willing to throw left-back Luke Shaw into the deal but from Pochettino's comments, Spurs have absolutely no intention of getting rid of a player they turned into a Premier League star after signing him from Sporting Lisbon for £4m in 2014.
