Timothy Fosu-Mensah: I have been compared to Paul Pogba

Manchester United youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah has revealed he was compared with the club’s big-money signing Paul Pogba when the Frenchman arrived at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils signed Pogba from Juventus in the European summer of 2016 for a record €105 million.

Fosu-Mensah, a Netherlands youth international, has been with United since 2014. He moved to the club from Dutch powerhouse and world renowned player production factory AFC Ajax.

But it was not until Pogba’s arrival that the 19-year-old found himself on the end of comparisons between himself and the France international.

“When I just came to United, some people said they’d seen a bit of similarity between me and Pogba when Paul first came here,” Fosu-Mensah said in an interview with Manchester United’s official website.

“Some people said I reminded them of him when I played in midfield.”

Pogba has been something of a maligned figure since joining United, widely criticised for not yet delivering on his lofty price tag.

Thus far, Fosu-Mensah has made only nine senior appearances for United in all competitions, he is tied to the club until 2020 with the option of an extra year on top of that.
