Tottenham midfielder Dier: Failure has strengthened us for Real Madrid, Dortmund test

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier says the club will draw on their experience from last season after being drawn against defending champions Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and APOEL in Group H of the Champions League.

Last season, Spurs were unable to advance in a group that consisted of French champions Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.

But the 23-year old believes their failure from the previous campaign will benefit them when they come up against tougher opposition this season.

"It's a very exciting group and from last season's experience, we know there are no easy games in the Champions League," Dier said.

"Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, who we played in the Europa League a couple of years ago - our styles will make for a great game in that one. Apoel will be tough as well.

"To play against Real Madrid will be a fantastic experience for us all, that's what the Champions League is all about, pitting yourselves against the best teams in Europe. They are the reigning champions as well, so that makes it even more special.

"We respect every opponent and we'll give everything against every opponent as well and try to beat them. It's exciting for our fans, a really exciting group and we're all looking forward to it."
