TRIBAL TRENDS - TOP 5: Man Utd boss Mourinho has Klopp dig; Liverpool rejected signing Ronaldo; Barcelona told Martial price;

Published on: 18 October 2017

It's that time of the week again where we look back over the past seven days and check out what articles Tribal readers have fancied the most.

Overall, we've got stories about all the major clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona.

The top story this week derives from what was the most anticipated clash in England over the weekend.

Unfortunately the meeting of Liverpool and Manchester United failed to live up to expectations, largely because of Jose Mourinho's stifling, 'park-the-bus' defensive tactics.

But that's not how the Portuguese saw the proceedings; he instead blamed his Reds counterpartJurgen Klopp for the stalemate.

Mourinho stated that he had sat deep waiting for the German to send his troops forward, and that because Klopp didn't go all out in attack, the move never eventuated for United.

That is some classic Mourinho spin right there.

It's not the only time Mourinho's actions have put the Liverpool hierarchy's nose out of place.

It was revealed this week, by ex-Reds chief Rick Perry, that Mourinho, who was Porto manager at the time, was being considered as a replacement for Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier.

But Perry says the club made their mind up that Mourinho wasn't 'respectful' enough to manager Liverpool after they witnessed his infamous dive when Porto scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Diario Gol has claimed that Manchester United have informed Barcelonaof their asking price for Anthony Martial.

The Red Devils are believed to prefer a sale to Barcelona rather than league rivals Arsenal, who have shown a keen interest in the Frenchman.

Mourinho is said to be keen to include Ivan Rakitic in the deal for Martial. Would you be happy with that United fans?

1998 World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry has had a crack at Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman lambasted the Manchester United target, claiming he was slow and uninspiredduring his performances for Les Bleus.

Bit harsh I'd say, but Griezmann certainly has looked a touch off the pace this season. Maybe he is seeking an exit?

And finally, and rather shockingly, former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has revealed he turned down the opportunity to signCristiano Ronaldo when he was at the helm at Anfield.

Just a teenager back then, Ronaldo was scouted by the Reds playing at the Toulon Tournament. But his wage demands were too high and the next year he signed with Manchester United.

Imagine what could have been Liverpool fans…
