Published on: 23 September 2017

Ghana and Nigeria will compete this Sunday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium the crown of the UFOA 2017 Nations Cup (kick-off at 18:00 local time).

The Black Stars and Super Eagles, who are both first and second in Group A at the end of the group stage, are regulars of the tournament and have already won one each (in 2010 against Senegal for Nigeria and in 2013 against the same opponent for Ghana).

Organizing country and title-holder, Ghana valued its ticket to the final of the sub-regional competition with a 2-0 victory over Niger thanks to the achievements of Kwame Kizito and Stephen Safro. While the Nigerians passed the obstacle of Benin in the semifinal on a goal of Rabiu Ali.

It will not be the first confrontation between the two West African heavyweights during the competition, as the Super Eagles defeated the Black Stars 2-0 in the third and final group day of group A while the Ghanaians were already assured of finishing at the head of the chicken.

"We will be very well prepared to face Nigeria. They beat us last time, and we will have to be strong to reverse the trend this Sunday, "assured Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu.

"It's a very good team and we really have to fight.

"We are the defending champions, but that is a thing of the past. A new chapter opens this Sunday and we will try to beat Nigeria.

"We had worries of injury before our last confrontation, but I hope I can count on everyone on Sunday.

"It will not be an easy game for us, but for them as well. "

In 49 official meetings between the two teams, Ghana imposed 19 times against 11 wins for Nigeria.
