Wakaso eyes exit from relegated Lorient barely six months after joining club

Ghana’s Alhassan Wakaso is ready to leave relegated French side Lorient, but has admitted his future is very much down to the club’s discretion.

The Black Stars man joined Lorient from Portuguese side Rio Ave back in January, but could not help them avoid relegation from Ligue 1.

Lorient were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Troyes in the promotion playoffs at the end of May, condemning them to second-tier football for at least the next season.

Wakaso has said he would rather leave the club in search of top flight football, but understands his fate is mostly out his own hands.

“I would want to move to play at a club in a higher league but it is the club that must decide this,” he told FootballMadeInGhana.com.

“It will be difficult for me to leave because I still have a three-year contract with them.

“So even though I would like to leave, it will depend more on the club.”
