Walker expects Citizens to cope

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker is confident that his squad have other players who will be able to help cover for the possible absence of Kevin de Bruyne.

Belgium international midfielder De Bruyne sustained an injury to his right knee during training with the Citizens on Wednesday and initial reports suggest that he could be sidelined for between two and three months.

We don't just rely on one player. It's a team game and whoever steps in will do well.

And, while admitting that the loss of the talented De Bruyne will be a big blow, England ace Walker believes that there are other players at the club who can step up to fill the gap.

He told reporters: "Kevin is a great player and it's just unfortunate that it's happened to him in training, but there's more than enough depth in the squad to cope.

"We don't just rely on one player. It's a team game and whoever steps in will do well. Obviously it's a big loss, but we've got more than enough cover."

Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is one of the players who could play a more major role in the absence of De Bruyne and he has wished his colleague a speedy return to the fold.

He told Omnisport: "Obviously we are all hoping that it is not too serious because Kevin, especially last season, had a great impact for us.

"He's very important - a key player for us - so we hope he is able to return as quickly as possible."

City opened the defence of their Premier League crown with a 2-0 win at Arsenal and they are back in action on Sunday when they play host to Huddersfield Town.

The Citizens are 1/12 to win the game and are 13/2 to do so by a 2-0 scoreline, with the hosts 1/2 to keep a clean sheet.
