Wayne Rooney: Jose Mourinho Has Brought Winning Mentality Back to United

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooneybelieves that new manager Jose Mourinho has brought a winning mentality back to the club.

Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club at the end of the 2012-13 season, United have endured difficult seasons, firstly under David Moyes, who was sacked before he saw out his first season at Old Trafford, while his successor Louis van Gaal couldn't bring back the fear factor associated with the Manchester club under Ferguson.

Louis van Gaal did manage to win the FA Cup during his tenure, but could only manage fourth and fifth place finishes in the league during his two seasons at the club, and ended up losing his job with the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho was appointed United boss during the summer after being sacked earlier in the season by Chelsea after a poor start to their league title defence, and Rooney, 30, has welcomed the appointment.

"It's always great to get a new manager but when you get someone in the stature of Jose Mourinho he's great to work under and he's brought a winning mentality back to the club,"Rooney told Manchester radio station Key 103.

"Manchester United, as a football club, we have to win and we have to deliver for him. There's pressure on the players but we're ready and I think this season we'll give a real challenge on all fronts."

With the arrival of Jose Mourinho, coupled with the transfer signings of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, central defender Eric Bailly and attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, many have backedUnited to enjoy a successful season, and Rooney is looking forward to the time the squad shares together over the next season or so.

"He's made, in my opinion, some great signings who have gelled in really well with the squad so it's exciting times.
