We are poised to make history in Africa - Saddick Adams

Asante Kotoko striker, Saddick Adams says his outfit is poised to make history in Africa this season despite a shaky start to their Confederation Cup campaign.

The FA Cup champions began their CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday and recorded a 1:0 victory over CARA Brazzaville at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Senegalese referee, Issah Sy awarded the Reds four penalties but Saddick Adams, Amos Frimpong and Baba Mahama all failed to find the back of the net but substitute, Yakubu Mohammed converted a late penalty to put his side ahead.

And despite failing to take their chances in the first league in the preliminary stage, the bulky striker is adamant they poised to write history in Africa this year.

“The team is poised to make history in Africa this season,” Saddick told Accra based Vision 1 FM.

“Missing a penalty yesterday l must confess l felt really bad but can’t say much because it forms part of the game.

“Sometimes as a player you scores but times it turns out to be the other way round, which is normal to every player like myself.

“But to be honest l wasn’t down at all throughout the game even though l had wasted a crucial chance. l still put up my best which finally paid-off in Yakubu Mohammed getting the team’s winner after a wonderfully executed penalty kick in the dying embers of the game.

“The team on the day was splashed with mere hard luck. If not for that CARA in anyway couldn’t stand the mighty efforts of Asante Kotoko,” he noted.

Quizzed how prepared the team is going into the return leg in Congo, he said “We [Kotoko] go into every game as a team set to develop a winning mentality and our Confederations Cup second-leg game with CARA is no exception.

“As we’re in to rewrite the name Kotoko back to the good books of the African Confederations Cup,” he added.
