West Ham chase deal for Kwadwo Asamoah

West Ham and Southampton are both pursuing Juventus wing-back Kwadwo Asamoah, according to calciomercato.com.

The Ghanaian international is highly experienced, having played over 200 games in Serie A for Juve and former club Udinese. He has also played in two World Cups for Ghana, playing in both the 2010 tournament in South Africa and in Brazil back in 2014.

At 28 years of age, he is still in the prime of his career, and very much remains part of Bianconeri boss Max Allegri’s first team plans, being utilised as a squad player who can play in a number of positions.

This campaign he has been employed mostly as a left back, covering for first choice Alex Sandro, making 20 starts in all competitions. In the past, under previous manager Antonio Conte, he was used mostly as a wing back while for his country he plays further forward either in central midfield or as a winger.

If Slaven Bilic continues into next season with a three man backline then Asamoah’s flexibility on the left wing could come in useful, although with both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku competing for the same wing back role, it may prove an unlikely purchase unless there are departures from the club in the summer.
