Yaw Preko blames recent bribery reports to his side’s AYC qualification failure

Ghana U20 coach Yaw Preko has attributed his side’s failure to qualify for next year’s African Youth Championship to the recent bribery reports.

Last week, reports emerged that the Ghana Football Association paid a sum of $420,000 as bribes to referees to aid Ghana’s qualification to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

According to Preko, this made the referees for the Ghana and Senegal game to be extra cautious during the match. This Yaw Preko believes caused his side despite very well on the day.

“For a very important match for the nation and bribery case is all around, definitely, if I were the referee I will be straight without any favour to the home team, because eyes will be watching”, he spoke to Accra based radio station Starr FM.

“We all saw it, there were some penalties which should have gone our way, but what can you say, it's really difficult,” he added.

The teams which have qualified for the competition are Senegal, Guinea, Mali, Sudan, Egypt, South Africa, Cameroon and host Zambia.
