AFCON 2017 : Ghana placed alongside Uganda, Egypt and Mali in Group D

Published on: 19 October 2016

Ghana has been handed a similar draw as their 2018 World Cup qualifier with Uganda, Egypt and Mali in Group D of the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Ghana's last meeting with Egypt at AFCON was in Angola 2010. A 1-0 win for Egypt in the final in Luanda.

For Mali, the last time the two teams met was at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa where Mali defeated Ghana 3-1 in a third place-off game.

Uganda last played Ghana in an AFCON tournament during the 1978 edition which Ghana defeated them to win the trophy.

The draw is similar to that of Ghana's 2018 World Cup qualifier- the only team missing out is Congo.

Ghana will be based in the Gabon City of Port Gentil when the AFCON kicks off in January.
