2019 AFCON Qualifier: Mohammed Polo believes Amartey's absence won't affect Ghana

Former Ghana international Mohammed Ahmed Polo is confident the Black Stars will cope without Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia and Kenya.

Amartey, 23, suffered an ankle injury while in action for the Foxes against West Ham United in the Premier League and has been ruled out for at least four months to recover fully which means he will miss the Black Stars' remaining Afcon qualifiers.

Speaking to Goal, Polo said his absence will not affect the team in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

"Amartey is a good player and has been consistent for Ghana but this is the national team not club football. I believe we will cope without him in the remaining Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games," he told Goal.

"There are a lot of quality players around who can fill the void only if Kwesi Appiah will call them for the games. Such injuries like what Amartey suffered usually impedes the progress of teams but I believe the coach has the solution to it so we won't miss him that much."

"The game against Ethiopia is a must win for the Black Stars. Nobody knows what will happen with regards to the ruling involving the game against Sierra Leone which was cancelled so the players must win to avoid calculations later on," he added.

Ghana, who will play Ethiopia on November 18 in Addis Ababa, sit third in Group F with three points, four points behind table-toppers Kenya.
