2018 AWCON: Every Black Queens player is fighting for her position - Mercy Tagoe

Black Queens deputy coach Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo claims no member of the team is guaranteed a starting spot ahead of their opening game of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Ghana will be hosting the 11th edition of the flagship continental women tournament and are set to open their campaign against Algeria at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Coach Bashir Hayford and his charges will hoping to begin the campaign on a good note as they aim to win the title for the first time ever, having thrice finished as runners-up.

There are no automatic places for any member of the team," Quarcoo said, as reported by Ghanasoccernet.

"We are preparing a team that we believe is capable of winning the tournament, and we will not dwell on past glory.

"What we see in training is what will inform our decision for the first team.

"Every player is fighting for her position, whether you play in Ghana or outside the country."

Ghana will take on Mali in their next game on November 20 before wrapping up the group series three days later.
