2018 AWCON: Priscilla Okyere admits Black Queens felt enormous pressure to win their Group A opener

Black Queens midfielder Priscilla Okyere says coach Bashir Hayford and the team felt enormous pressure to win their opening game at the on-going 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations against Algeria.

Gladys Amfobea bagged the only goal of the game as Ghana managed a slim 1-0 victory over Algeria on Saturday in Group A opener.

The female national team squandered a lot of chances in throughout the encounter to beat the North Africans convincingly.

The 23-year-old who was a key contributor of the Queens in the win has revealed his side wasn’t helped by the overwhelming pressure playing before the home crowd at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“This is the first time we were playing against such a crowd and we felt the pressure,” she told FootballmadeinGhana.com.

“We were very eager to score and that is why we missed a lot of the chances.”

However, she is hopeful of the team’s prospect having gotten the Algerian game out of the way successfully.

“Now that we have our first three points I think things will settle for us,” she added.

“The most important thing for us was to get the win and we managed to do that so I think things will get better for us.”

Okyere plays for Serbia side ŽFK Spartak Subotica and she has been influential for the club as they top the league with 21 points from 11 games.
