2019/2020 Ghana Premier League: Gladson Awako on target as Great Olympics beat Karela United 2-0

Published on: 16 January 2020

Experienced Gladson Awako was on target this afternoon when Great Olympics posted a 2-0 win over Karela United on Match Week 4 of the ongoing 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season.

Nicknamed the Wonder Club, the Accra-based side went into the match on the back of 3 successive defeats since the start of the campaign. In need of a win to get the season back on track, the blue-shirted army got the job done this afternoon with an emphatic victory over their matchday opponent.

An evenly matched first half ended goalless with the home side enjoying the better of possession and getting into dangerous positions. Their inability to convert half-chances, however, caused them as they failed to take the lead.

Right after returning from the break, the fortunes of Great Olympics changed after they were awarded a penalty kick. New signing Gladson Awako stepped up and converted from 12 yards to hand his side the lead.

Though Karela United pushed to restore parity, they were always stopped in their tracks by the host who was determined to keep a clean sheet at all costs.

A late goal from Abdul Razak Yussif completed a resounding victory for the Dade Boys who are now well out of the relegation zone of the ongoing Ghan Premier League season.
