2019 AFCON qualifier: Coach Kwesi Appiah edged to explain national team call-ups by Laryea Kingston

Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston says it is important for coach Kwesi Appiah to explain his national team call-ups due to the demands of the modern game.

The 56-year-old gaffer has named a 24-man squad for the final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya and this has caused some level of uncertainty with many insisting he explains the rationale behind certain names that made the cut.

The Hearts of Oak legend is of the opinion that the national team belongs to the people of Ghana, hence coach Appiah must give reasons why he called some players.

“I think it is very important because this is a national duty so the citizens will like to know the reason why certain players were called.

“Press conferences are very necessary and if the coach is comfortable then it should happen because it is very important,” he told Citi TV.

Kwesi Appiah’s 24 man squad include six debutants including Caleb Ekuban of Trabzonspor and Kwame Bonsu of Asante Kotoko.

The Black Stars have already qualified for the 2019 Afcon to be staged in Egypt in between June and July.

Ghana will be looking to secure all three points in the game against Kenya to enable them top Group F.
