2019 African Cup of Nations: Ghana may face Egypt, Nigeria or Morocco at group stage

Ghana are among the top teams seeded in Pot 2 for the draw ceremony of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Cairo, Egypt on Friday (today ).

The six seeded teams put in Pot 2 for the draw are DR Congo, Ghana, Mali, Cote D'ivoire, Guinea and Algeria, the draw is however based on FIFA latest ranking on 4 April, 2019.

Ghana who are chasing their fifth - time African trophy, will have to escape tough test by drawing against the middle performed teams on the continent.Following the new draw procedures released by the Confederation of African Football on Thursday, one or two teams will be paired from each pot.

Looking at the new format, Ghana looks likely to face host Egypt, though are behind Ghana in the latest ranking but with the ticket as a host, is seeded in pot 1, as against perennial rivals Nigeria and Morocco or probably Senegal who are in Pot 1.

Pot 3 consists of South Africa and some of the continent ’s dark forces : Uganda, Benin, Mauritania , Madagascar and Kenya .

Tanzania, who are making their first ever trip to the AFCON are in Pot 4 along with Zimbabwe, Namibia , Guinea Bissau , Angola and Burundi.

The Black Stars qualified to the Afcon after beating Kenya in Accra with a lone goal to top the group.

Ghana has since 2008 qualified to all editions of the tournament . They last appeared at the AFCON finals in 2015 against Ivory Coast, which by way of penalties lost.Despite, leading with two kicks from the spot.

The draw ceremony , which will hold at Giza, near Cairo , kicks off at 6 pm Ghana time on Friday .

Several former African stars Yaya Toure, Mark Fish , El Hadji Diouf , Moustafa Hadji amongst others are expected to witness the draw ceremony .
