Coach for Ghana’s Black Stars B team, Maxwell Konadu has heaped praises on his players after their hard-fought victory against Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations tournament.
The two heavyweights as far as West African football is concerned locked horns at the Stade Lat Dior in Senegal on Friday night hoping to eliminate the other to have the opportunity of qualifying to the semis.
Burkina Faso started well and took an early lead courtesy a strike from Ilina Teindrebeogo. The Ghana team did not back down and pushed until they pulled parity on the 28th minute through striker Shafiu Mumuni.
A goalless scoreline in the second half meant that the match had to be decided via the penalty shootout.
Some heroic display from Eric Ofori Antwi who was in post for the Black Stars B team resulted in Ghana emerging as 5-4 winners.
Commenting on the performance of his players after the triumph, Coach Maxwell Konadu has commended his lads for their tremendous efforts that have steered them into the semi-finals.
“We knew the qualities we had, we knew that after equalizing, eventually we will go ahead and win.
“But the much-needed winner never came. I have to commend my boys for holding it down till the end of the 90 minutes. They really did well.
“We wanted to win within 90 minutes but unfortunately it didn't happen but we have to learn lessons by concentrating till the very last minute or the last kick”, the gaffer shared.
