2020/21 CAF Champions League: Nouadhibou v Kotoko first leg preview

Published on: 27 November 2020

Asante Kotoko are looking to start their Champions League journey on a good note as they travel to Mauritania to face FC Nouadhibou on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors gained selection for Africa's biggest club competition after the cancellation of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season earlier this year.

Kotoko won the NC Special competition Tier 1 trophy last year and qualified for the 2019 edition but were knocked out of the first round by Etoile du Sahel.

Their opponents sealed a 3-2 victory over two legs. They will hope to avert a similar outcome starting with their upcoming battle against the 2019/20 Mauritania Ligue 1 winners.

Captain and goalkeeper Felix Annan suffered an injury in a Ghana Premier League game against Berekum Chelsea last weekend and as a result will not be available for the upcoming game.

However, shot stopper Razak Abalora has returned to the lineup. He was tested positive for COVID-19 on international duty with the Black Stars.

Nouadhibou recently appointed Comoros tactician Amir Abdou as their new coach after giving Cameroonian Mauril N'joya his marching orders earlier this year. Amir will be managing the team for the first time against Kotoko.

The Orange club are unbeaten in their last five games in 2020 (W4 D1) and Kotoko are also unbeaten in the same period (W2 D3).

The game will be played at the Stade Cheikha Ould Bodiya in Nouakchott.
