2021 AFCON: AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan swerves Ghana again

Published on: 27 December 2021

AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan has turned down Black Stars call-up again for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, according to 442gh.com.

Coach Milovan Rajevac named the 18-year-old in his 30-man provisional squad for the tournament which kicks off on January 9, 2022.

However, according to 442gh.com, the call-up has come too early for the player, and participating at the AFCON may affect his personal development.

This will be the second time Afena-Gyan has failed to honour an invitation to feature for the Black Stars.

He was named in Ghana's 28-man squad for the final round of games of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa early this month.

But the promising forward failed to show up for the games with his agent Arthur claiming Gyan failed to show for the games due to development plans Roma has put in place to ensure his development.

Afena-Gyan has broken into Jose Mourinho’s team having been with AS Roma’s youth team.

He has scored two goals in five Serie A games for AS Roma this season.
