Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew has revealed that his outfit failed to score more goals due to the bad nature of the pitch in their second Group C game against São Tomé and Príncipe on Monday.
Jordan Ayew’s solitary strike in the second half ensured coach Kwesi Appiah's side picked up all three points at the Esadio Nacional de 12 Julho as they go top of Group C.
Ahead of the game, Atlético Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and some players had complained about the state of the pitch and on the matchday, movement of the ball on the pitch was difficult.
The Black Stars were tipped to thrashed São Tomé, who are minnows in Africa football but the game produced only goal.
Speaking after the game, the Swansea City vice-captain claimed they were unable to score more goals because of the pitch.
"The pitch was horrible, but we possessed the game like 80%. We should have got more goals but it was a difficult surface to play on", the 29-year-old said.
