2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: Gladson Awako elated after Black Stars debut in Sao Tome win

Accra Great Olympics captain, Gladson Awako has expressed his satisfaction after making has Black Stars debut.

The skilful midfielder featured in Black Stars 3-1 win against Sao Tome at the Accra Sports in the final 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] group games.

The 30-year-old’s debut came when he replaced Osman Bukari on the 47th-minute mark.

Awako was part of the locally-based players invited by Black Stars coach, Charles Akonnor for the qualifiers due to the absence of most foreign-based players over COVID-19 restrictions.

The former TP Mazembe midfielder wrote on his Twitter handle.

"Wow!!!. I’ve been dreaming of this day since a little boy! What a feeling.

"I’d like to thank the manager for giving me this opportunity, and everyone else that’s believed in me and supported me to get to this point in my career.

"Follow your dreams with heart!"

The 28-year-old has been instrumental in Great Olympics bright performance in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

He has made 11 appearances scoring four times in the process and has won four man of the match award in the ongoing season.

Awako has previously played for Hearts of Lions, Berekum Chelsea which he helped win the 2010 Ghana League and subsequently played the CAF Champions with them.

He has featured for USL side, Phoenix Risings before joining Great Olympics on a free transfer.
