2022/23 Ghana Premier League matchday 8: RTU come from behind to see off Asante Kotoko with a 2-1 win

Published on: 19 November 2022

Real Tamale United (RTU) showed impressive resilience on Saturday night as the team fought to come from behind to defeat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the Ghana Premier League.

The Tamale-based club today hosted the defending champions at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

In a game serving as a matchday 8 encounter of the league campaign, Asante Kotoko led at halftime thanks to a strike from Cameroonian attacker Georges Mfegue in the 42nd minute.

While the Porcupine Warriors hoped to score more in the second half to cruise to victory, RTU had other ideas.

The team returned from the break and did enough to stun Asante Kotoko.

First, the hosts scored through Issah Kuka in the 62nd minute to restore parity before poster boy David Abagna found the back of the net two minutes later to give RTU a 2-1 lead.

The win has lifted Real Tamale United to 8th on the Ghana Premier League table with Asante Kotoko likely to drop out of the top four depending on results from the 8 matches to be played on Sunday before the league goes on break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
