2022 CHAN: Black Galaxies to arrive in Constantine Thursday

Published on: 11 January 2023

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed the Black Galaxies will arrive at their Constantine base for the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) from Algiers on Thursday, January 12.

Annor Walker’s side will play their Group C in Constantine after camping at Algiers for the last seven days when they arrived in Algeria from Egypt.

The team played two friendlies in Cairo and two in Algiers. Ghana beat Egypt's U20 team 2-0 in a friendly match played at the Cairo International stadium on December 27 before beating Egyptian giants Al Ahly 3-1 five days later.

The Black Galaxies drew goalless with host nation Algeria in a friendly match which was also to officially open the newly constructed Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers on January 7.

The last pre-friendly against Mozambique ended abruptly after the Mozambican coach asked his players to leave the field of play following a penalty decision by the referee.

The team will depart Algiers on Thursday morning and will continue preparations for Sunday’s opening group match against Madagascar.

Sudan and Morocco are the other teams in the Black Galaxies group.

Ghana is in the CHAN tournament for the first time since 2014 when they lost on penalties to Libya in the final.
