Having suffered a defeat against Portugal in their opener, the Black Stars returned to winning ways with hard fought 3-2 win over South Korea.

In their final Group H game, the West African country needed a draw to book a place in the last 16 of the tournament.

However, the Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat against the South American, who are two times world champions.

Hughton, speaking at his unveiling in Kumasi earlier today admitted that he was left disappointed following the defeat.

"I must say I was a painful one," he said.

"The defeat against Uruguay is the biggest disappointment," he added.

Hughton brings a wealth of experience to his first top position in African football, having previously managed teams in the Premier League and the English Championship. He has been tasked with rebuilding the Black Stars and returning the team to glory days.

The former Northern Ireland international is eager to hit the ground running and has a tough test ahead, with his first game in charge coming up on Thursday against Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The Black Stars are joint top of Group E alongside Angola with both teams with four points after two games.
