2022 World Cup qualifier: CK Akonnor satisfied with the way Black Stars controlled game despite South Africa defeat

Ghana coach CK Akonnor has heaped praise on his team for how they controlled the game despite losing 1-0 to South Africa in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane's lone strike in the 83rd minute sealed all three points for Bafana Bafana at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg on Monday.

The win takes South Africa to the top of the table with 4 points from two matches in the ongoing qualifiers.

"We started well in the first half. We were tactically very disciplined," coach Akonnor said after the game.

"I mean it went the way we wanted but we were not clinical upfront and that was the problem.

"But I was satisfied with the way we played in terms of controlling the game.

"In the second half we somehow lost the game in the midfield with how we wanted to play.

"We believed we could win this match. We did one or two substitutions which went the other way around and somehow, we kept dropping and it affected our game."

The Black Stars now sit 2nd in Group G with three points but could slip down the group if Zimbabwe beat Ethiopia on Tuesday.
