2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana coach Chris Hughton reacts to absence of Andre Ayew and three others ahead of Angola clash in Luanda

Published on: 27 March 2023

Ghana coach Chris Hughton says the absence of Andre Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku and Denis Odoi is huge lost to the Black Stars ahead of their game against Angola in Luanda.

The Black Stars will be without the quartet when they face the Palancas Negras on Monday, March 27, 2023 due to injuries.

The Palancas Negras will play host to the Black Stars in matchday four of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Estadio Novembre 11 Stadium in Luanda.

“Their absence is a loss to the team because they are not only players in the squad but they are players who have been around and been part of the squad for a while”

“But this is International football and this is why you have a squad prepared and always if its starters like in particular Denis Odoi and Alexander Djiku – both started then this is where you have a squad and it’s always an opportunity for somebody else”

Ghana sit top of Group E with seven points after three games, three points clear off second-place Angola while Central African Republic sit third with four points.

The Black Stars will secure qualification to the continental showpiece to be hosted by Ivory Coast if they beat Angola in Luanda.
