Ghana coach Chris Hughton has expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers win over Angola.

The Black Stars opened its 2023 account with a win against Angola in match day four at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday.

It was the first win for the Black Stars since the 2022 World Cup defeat to Uruguay in December 2022.

Antoine Semenyo's last-gasp winner ensured the Black Stars returned to winning ways under new coach Chris Hughton.

After the game, the former Brighton manager said he is satisfied with his team’s performance against Angola.

“African football is not different from football anywhere, if you perform well enough, you have the chance of winning if you score goals in the game you can take pressure of yourself. Probably, our performance was okay I think in the end we deserve it we were better than Angola not so much more but we were better” he said.

The Black Stars of Ghana are edging close to qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The four-time African champions has now opened a three-point lead on second place Central African Republic.

The Black Stars will travel to Luanda on Monday for the second leg of the double-header, knowing a win will seal early qualification.
