2023 CHAN: GFA Exco member Dr. Tony Aubynn worried player exodus will affect Black Galaxies

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Tony Aubynn says he is concerned top players in the Black Galaxies team may leave their clubs on the local scene before the 2023 CHAN tournament.

The football administrator is doubling as the chairman of the Black Galaxies management committee.

The locally assembled national team over the past weekend cruised past Benin to progress to the final round of the qualifiers for the 2023 CHAN tournament.

Hoping Ghana will overcome Nigeria in the final round to make it to next year’s tournament, Dr. Tony Aubynn says player exodus may affect the team.

“Honestly speaking, players exodus is a big worry to the team because most of the players including Yaw Annor, Augustine Okrah and others were all part of the first team (Black Galaxies). Unfortunately, you cannot prevent them from leaving.

“When I met the technical handlers of the Black Galaxies, they were hoping that the current players in the team will not leave for greener pastures outside Ghana till the CHAN tournament is over,” Dr. Tony Aubynn told Akoma FM in an interview.

The Ghana FA Exco member added, “But as a footballer, if you are unable to bring something home, it becomes a headache, so blocking their deal becomes unethical.

“However, what we will be doing is to widen our tentacles in our talent hunt so we don't fall short of quality in the team.”

The Black Galaxies have broken camp but will regroup later in the year to prepare for the two-legged tie against Nigeria.
